Global Storybooks for Language Learners of Irish

In this presentation, Liam Doherty and Bonny Norton will discuss how they have drawn on digital storytelling to promote multilingualism and multiliteracy across global sites. They will first introduce the Global Storybooks project (https://globalstorybooks.net/), an innovative platform offering open-licensed multilingual stories with audio and printable downloads. They will then demonstrate how the platform has been adapted to create a new resource for learners of Irish. They will conclude with a discussion on the way free digital storybooks can promote literacy engagement, foster learner identity and investment, and provide opportunities for multimodal and translanguaging approaches in the language classroom (Doherty & Norton, 2025; Darvin & Norton, 2023; Norton 2013)
