What campaigning is being done for the Irish language at the moment

Conradh na Gaeilge #

Conradh na Gaeilge takes a lead role in campaigns to protect and expand the Irish language and the language rights of the Irish language and Gaeltacht community.

This includes meetings with politicians, civil servants and other relevant people; lobbying; correspondence; parliamentary questions; proposing amendments to legislation; submissions; seeking the support of political parties; seeking public support; organising information days for politicians and conferences; and more, on a continuous basis, with a view to achieving the organisation’s advocacy aims.

Campaigns

See the Conradh’s website for an A-Z list of its campaigns, including topics such as increased investment in Irish and the Gaeltacht, education, housing, elections, place names, and more.

Latest Submissions

Conradh na Gaeilge makes submissions on various matters throughout the year. See below for a few recent ones from the past few years:

An Dream Dearg #

An Dream Dearg emerged early in 2017 with the well-known #AchtAnois campaign, which demanded an Irish Language Act in the North after many years of discrimination against the Irish-speaking community.

Since then, the group has grown enormously and is recognised as a pillar of support for the Irish-language community.

Campaigns

An Dream Dearg focuses on campaigns relating to street names, language legislation, Irish-speaking youth, education, signage, and language rights. See An Dream’s website to find out more information.

TINTEÁN #

hearth

TINTEÁN is a national housing campaign with the aim of tackling the housing crisis in Gaeltacht areas.

This campaign, a joint effort by Conradh na Gaeilge and the BÁNÚ campaign group from the Connemara Gaeltacht, brings together Gaeltacht communities across the country to highlight the urgent housing needs threatening the cultural and linguistic heritage of these regions.
