There are many resources available if you are looking for suggestions for Irish names for your baby, names which have rich and emotive meanings that are deeply connected to the culture and history of the country.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic centre of learning in Skye, maintains a long list of Irish names for men and women, along with their known English equivalents and brief information on where the name originated.

The Irish Central Statistics Office publishes the most popular Irish names for boys and girls each year. Rían and Éabha were the most popular in 2024, and Rían and Fiadh in  2023.

For a more unique name, look to Irish mythology, for names like Caílte for boys and Bébhinn for girls.
