“The Necessity for De-Anglicizing the Irish Nation.”

This is a famous speech given by Douglas Hyde before the National Literary Society of Ireland. He believed that it was vital for Ireland to have its own identity and, among other things, its own language. He made people think about Ireland’s situation – among them Eoin MacNeill. A year later, MacNeill and Hyde founded the Gaelic League (Conradh na Gaeilge).
