The Irish Free State established

1 January 1922

After the Easter Rising in 1916 and the War of Independence, the Irish Free State was established, and Ireland had its own government. Irish was recognized as the national language of Ireland, and English was also made an official language. It was written into the constitution that legal documents should be available in both Irish and English.
