Civil Rights movement for the Gaeltacht founded

1 December 1969

A group was founded to seek civil, economic, and cultural rights for Irish speakers in the Gaeltacht regions. It began in Connemara in 1969, and they succeeded in organizing Oireachtas na Gaeilge around the country and outside Dublin. RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Údarás na Gaeltachta were also established.
