Conradh na Gaeilge (the Gaelic League), historically known as the Gaelic Union, was founded in Dublin on July 31, 1893, by Eoin MacNeill with the support of Douglas Hyde, Eoghan Ó Gramhnaigh, and others. It was the main organization that promoted the revival of the Irish language, placing particular emphasis on encouraging people to speak Irish and on providing modern literature in the language.
