The first Oireachtas held

The Oireachtas was held for the first time on May 17, 1897, in Dublin.
Its goal was to celebrate Irish (Gaelic) culture and the Irish language, bringing the Irish-speaking community together. It was founded based on the Welsh Eisteddfod and the Scottish Mòd, and it has been growing stronger ever since.
