The first Official Standard of the Irish Language published

1 January 1958

The Official Standard of the Irish Language (Caighdeán Oifigiúil) was first published in 1958. It officially set out the rules for Irish grammar and spelling — something that hadn’t existed before — in order to make written Irish easier and to clarify its grammar. The most recent version was published in 2017.
